Relay for Life Car Wash

Posted by Kathy T. on April 5, 2008

Bob Parks Realty, LLC agents met this chilly Saturday morning to run a car wash for the Relay for Life.  All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.  We were concerned with the weather given that it rained every day this week, but it finally stopped last night so we were able to go for it!  Here are some photos!

Stephanie and Karmen try to flag down drivers to get their car washed.

Gene’s wife, Kris Williams, helps out.  I don’t know how she stayed warm.

Gene and Mike operate the pressure washers.

Meanwhile, they gave us old women the towels to dry.

We’re not THAT old.  ;)

More fun!

Special thanks to Jersey Mike’s for feeding us lunch. The sandwiches were FANTASTIC.  Also thanks to Janice Williams from the Northfield office, Rachel’s grandson, Gene’s brother and his girlfriend, and Stephanie’s friend who came to help.

More appreciation to the agents who were here: Mike Bannister, Gene Williams, Karmen Crowder, Kathy Tyson, Stephanie Harris, Kathie Meadow, Celia Clifton, and John Mayfield.  We rock.

Home Sales Up

Posted by Kathy T. on March 25, 2008

Home sales increased in February, although home prices dropped somewhat… good news for the nation’s real estate market.  The article published at MSNBC.com said,

Economists, however, said they still believed any sustained housing rebound was many months away.

“The hemorrhaging has stopped but the recovery will be long, slow and painful,” said Bernard Baumohl, managing director of the Economic Outlook Group. “It’s unlikely that we will see any sustained jump in home purchases, must less higher prices, until mid 2009 at the earliest.”

I’m going to call it good news that there’s been a rebound!

Green Office Update

Posted by Kathy T. on March 18, 2008

going greenWe have a new gi-normous recycling bin downstairs now for paper, junk mail, magazines, etc. … now we just have to get into the habit of dropping these items in there rather than the regular trash can.  We’ve seen at least one person doing a double take, and moving his recyclables into the new bin!  Upstairs we have all kinds of recycling opportunities: plastic, cardboard, eyeglasses, cans, styrofoam, etc.   We signed up at last week’s meeting to be responsible for a one month period of transferring these items to a recycling center.

In other news, some of the ideas that agents had for recycling included:

  • Re-use gift bags
  • Teach children at an early age to recycle
  • Change light bulbs at home to energy efficient
  • Re-use larger plastic items (juice, milk) for storage of other items
  • Use cloth bags at grocery to save from using the plastic bags
  • Give items to Goodwill or Boys & Girls Club any household items that could be used for art supplies
  • Keep thermostat at 68 degrees in winter and 72 in summer
  • Save your aerosol paint cans, batteries, computer equipment for the Rutherford County Hazardous Waste Drop Off
  • Lowes will take used rechargeable batteries
  • Use ceiling fans for cooling in summertime and to circulate air for heat in the winter

We are now emailing our office floor time schedule and meeting agendas rather than printing on paper.

Recycling Containers Are Here

Posted by Kathy T. on March 6, 2008

We got our recycling containers today… one for aluminum and one for plastics.  We’ve seen several agents in our office who’ve also set up their own paper recycling boxes.  We are also collecting the plastic grocery bags to donate to the Smyrna – LaVergne Food Bank.
